We recently saw the Licks perform in Chapel Hill, N.C. at the Local 506.

It was a great small venue that was full of Licks lovers!

Yesterday I heard a rumor that "24" was shooting at the Reflecting Pool in DC. I borrowed my boss's car drove over the the Monument and hauled ass up and down the Reflecting Pool. After turned beet red from running I gave up...they were gone.

To my surprise,when my boss came in to work this morning he said "um have you been outside?" "24" was shooting literally right around the corner, one block away. Keifer was already gone but I did get to see this new character and a couple of other ones. I never thought standing around waiting for someone to just get out of a car then hearing someone yell "CUT" would be so fun.

We finally broke down and got it, Dogfish Head Fort....it's expensive for a bottle but man was it worth it! We had been fighting the urge for a while but thought ok there is 3 of us here to share- one of us has to like the taste of it....we all ended up liking it and it's 18 or 19% alcohol!! yikes! Unfortunately, I was DD so I only had a little bit but next time it's my turn :)

It's nearly impossible to tell in this picture but the sand dune in the right of this picture is 90 ft tall. the little dots that you see are people walking around- it's totally nuts there-

I highly recommend making the trip up to the top- it's a hike but worth it in the end

Painted baby mirror-

I made this for my lil punkin. It matches the bedding that she has in her room-

I used one of those mirrors that are meant for behind a door with the skinny cheap frames...took the frame off...and made a large more substantial one with wood. There is a channel cut out of the back so that the mirror sits right into it. Lots of glue and metal brackets were used to make sure that the mirror was secure. I would've taken the picture with the mirror installed but the reflection was really distracting.

This is the back cover of one of their cd's and I just had to paint it. I actually painted two of them. I started painting the first one for a house warming present i think-then my other friend wanted a version in pink and brown.

It's kinda crazy to just have the figure in shades of blue but it makes quite an impact in their house.....and i dig it.

Southern Culture on the Skids: Recher Theater Towson, MD

I have recently gotten an "education" on this band. Hillbilly rock meets surf will give you a good idea of what you are in for. I had a "best of" cd made for me so that I'd be familiar with some of their songs. Little did I know that going to this concert would not only get me familiar with this band but would put me on stage with them and meeting them afterwards!!!!

We got there shortly after the doors opened and were asked to be "Chicken Girls." I was like what the hell?? The owner of the theater explained that you go up on stage for one song "8 piece box", dance and throw fried chicken at the audience. At first, I thought no way in hell am I doing this but, just as quickly as that thought came...it left. It was replaced with when the hell would I ever have this opportunity again?? sign me up!!! Long story short one song turned into 4 and we ended up throwing out Little Debbie Oatmeal Creme pies too!! It was a blast. We got to meet all three members of the band afterward- They said "Ya'll good dancers!"- what a mess!

The Moaners

The Moaners, Recher Theater - Baltimore

Melissa and Laura of The Moaners kicked ass again on Thursday night. They are a two person band from North Carolina on Yep Roc Records. We got their cd from someone at Yep Roc and have loved them ever since.

Check out their cd "Dark Snack" (you must hear "Terrier") and look for a new cd coming in 2007!!

They're on tour starting in July and are going out west- check them out if you can!!

Progression of a Painting

My grandma (lil ga) for most people that know me was a big part of my life. She was around most summers watching me and my brother. She got us hooked on Days of Our Lives at a young age, which has turned out to be something that keeps that side of my family together and is usually a topic of discussion when we are on the phone/in person.

This has always been one of my favorite pictures of her. It's still in progress but I like the way that it's turning out. I think she would be proud.

National Zoo

My favorite lil boy Bryan came over to our place this past weekend- we saw all kinds of mammals, birds, insects, and crazy things....and what was his favorite part you ask???? the huge soft foam PIZZA!! We had fun and he had a such a good time that he was silent all the way home (which never EVER happens)

There is a ton to see there of course- I hadn't been in so long that I forgot how cool the crazy animals there are, and it's FREE- well if you don't park there that is :)

Rockin Wedding Record Box

I'll admit up front that I can't take full credit for this idea.... I was flipping through a scrapbook magazine years ago and saw that someone had made a book and pages were record sleeves with records made of paper inside- I think they said something on the records but i'm not sure. Anyway, this idea stuck with me for a long time and I knew that some event would present itself worthy of this really cool present. Instead of a book I made a record box which ended up working out a lot better. It's much easier to get the records out and I think it's a cool thing to have on a shelf.

Each record was filled out by an attendent of the wedding. Then I had them send me pictures to make the center "label" of the record. The "records" are just thick black paper cut the same size as a full length LP. I just measured the record sleeves and the thickness of the stack of "records" and made a box out of mdf- painted it glossy black and had vinyl letters made at a local sign shop. Even though I was a year late giving it to them it turned out to be a great anniversary present :)

OK so I don't have kids of my own so I have to gush for the time being over my friends kids. This lil cutie is a piece of work-but so funny and adorable- She is at the age now where she will repeat anything you say- how fun is it to hear a 2 year old say "simma down now" or "that's nasty."

They were calling for a storm for a couple of days and to be prepared, possible tornado warnings- so out of nowhere, right before the yeah yeah yeah's concert, this crazy series of dark clouds that were dark blue and green swarmed the sky- it was amazing!!!

HGTV- Curb Appeal

One of the most exciting things that happened to me this year is that I was picked to be a designer on an episode of Curb Appeal on HGTV. I worked together with another artist on this mural above.

The house that I picked to do was a rowhouse in D.C. The owners share a walkway with their next door neighbors that leads to the back alley. I thought it would be a nice touch to add a little artsy touch to this space. Previously it was just plain dark brick. We painted the whole walkway lighter and added this small mural. It's the tree of D.C. and marks when the row of houses was built.

The episode just aired and it was so crazy! My closest friends were here, a few live too far away, and it was surreal.....thanks to everyone for all there support and all the compliments!

9:30 Club- Sunday March 26

Rob Zombie and crew completely rocked Washington D.C. It was my first time seeing the legendary musician-film maker. I highly recommend catching his show- the background movies were totally amazing-and the music was just as good as I thought it would be!!

Morrissey in concert

There are few bands/musicians that I can say have been a constant since I started listening to them. Morrissey/The Smiths are definitely one of them. I've been hooked ever since High School. A few years ago I had the previledge of seeing Morrissey play at Nation in Washington, D.C. As you can see I got pretty darn close to him. At one point inches away from getting a hand shake...ugh so close! I'm a huge huge fan and am looking forward to his upcoming cd Ringleader of the Tormentors out April 4th!!! It's a bit of a different album for him. He is finally seeing some happiness in the world and I think it's going to show in his latest.

My latest project: We needed something in our room. Having 4 empty near white walls just wasn't cutting it anymore.

In the winter, we refer to our bed as "our nest." More often than not we would rather be there than outside in the freezing cold. So what better picture to put up above "the nest" than the underside of a tree- and just to be extra cheesy a look of carved initials in the trunk-

Surprisingly this picture was taken just a few weeks ago. It was the first time out with my new Holga (which I looooove by the way)

This place is so interesting. They are in the middle of renovating it but are keeping a lot of the really cool and old looking parts. I recommend checking it out one day-small art galleries, a glass blowing place, yurts where they make jewelry, and an old school ballroom.

Dog Portrait: Chase

One of my best friends, Michele, had a dog that passed away about 6 months ago- His name was Chase. He used to stand up on his back legs and put his hands into hers. This was her favorite "pose" of his and was able to get a shot of him doing it with her cell phone camera. She's been asking me to draw something of him for a while now. I thought what better picture to draw from then her favorite??? It still needs some work but putting pictures up on this blog is motivating me to keep drawing and painting.

Painted Baby Rocker- Classic Pooh

Interior Design isn't the only thing that I've been up to lately.....

A friend of mine has a small gift shop in D.C. that has a kid's section. I was asked to paint a classic, unisex children's rocker. It was between Beatrix Potter and Classic Pooh. Obviously, Classic Pooh won. Their characters were a bit happier than Potters'. I really like painting these small kid's projects, they are really cute, quick and fun to do.

This rocker will be on display in the store and will hopefully generate some other business: Personalizing, matching existing nursery collections, etc. I look forward to sharing more in the future :)

Decorating Spaces- March 2006

I haven't mentioned it previously on this blog but, I'm an interior designer. I work for a company called Apartment Zero.

Last year we met two gentlemen from D.C. who wanted their condo re-done. They already had a great kitchen but practically the rest of their space was all open space. They wanted us to create a dining area and lounge area for not only them but their guests also.

We put a plan together and they decided to go ahead with almost everything that we proposed. They loved the ideas and ran with them. They painted everything themselves, even the stripes that I suggested behind the fireplace, in the colors that I picked out. After that we ordered the furniture and it was delivered to their house. Unfortunately, we never made it back to the condo to see how it looked completely finished....Until, we got an email from Tim saying that their place was going to be pictured in Decorating Spaces Magazine!

Fast forward to this morning.... Jenn and I went over to Barnes and Noble and grabbed a copy. I flipped through thinking that I had better look closely because the article won't be too big and I didn't want to pass it.... but when I flipped to page 78 there was a huge picture of their living room. I looked at the next page and there was another picture... it turns out this is no little article at all, it's a 5 page spread!!! My jaw dropped and I was amazed. I've posted just one of the pages above. It's moments like this that make me really love my job!!!

Just thought I'd post my almost finished recent painting. It's been so relaxing to get back into a painting again. It's been a long time. The biggest issue I had with this one was with the colors. The background color was really important to me. I took at least a day or two just messing with that. Then the rest kind of fell together. The skin still needs some work but I thought I'd share-

I can hear it now "Ok everyone, This year let's have an insane looking woman covered in white with a Beethoven white wig teased out suspended and trapped in a web of iridescent paper, icicles, and drizzle her with fake snow. "

Nothing gives me that warm Christmas feeling like viewing a 12' x 6' Winter massacre.

Great Falls, Virginia- If you have never been - you should-The first time I went there I couldn't believe that I was anywhere near D.C. It's so quiet and peaceful there. I recommend the Virginia side over the Maryland one. The view is so much better-

My family lives in a really small town in Minnesota. Unfortunately, I was there twice last year to attend funerals. The happy things surrounding this little town were definitely a highlight of my trip. There are fields as far as the eye can see covered with sunflowers... this was one of my favorite pictures from that time-
